On March 4th 2016 from 9am to 3pm, at the Jones County Civic Center, multiple state agencies and organizations will gather to provide information on the numerous financial, educational and technical support programs available for farm and forest owners.
Landowners are driven to leave a land legacy. Landowners and citizens have seen North Carolina’s rapid population growth and the change in our rural landscape. North Carolina’s private working lands (farms and forests that are natural engines driving the economy while providing while providing clean air and water, wildlife habitat, local foods, groundwater recharge and recreational areas) are at risk from threat and pressures of unplanned development. While farms and forests are kept intact and “working” they help maintain the quality of life that North Carolinians and visitors enjoy.
Farm and forest landowners may not be aware of the numerous financial, educational and technical support programs available to them, or of the shared concern for maintaining our rural working lands among multiple NC agencies, universities and the military. This alliance, the Sentinel Landscapes Partnership, encourages working lands conservation through multiple program areas.
NC Extension Forestry has produced a related publication titled, Conserving Working Lands: A land legacy handbook with tools and resources to guide your conservation planning journey, that will be presented and all will receive a take home copy.
This workshop will include:
- Presentations on natural resource management and land conservation programs and opportunities for farm and forest owners;
- Details on financial and technical assistance programs — eligibility, how to apply, requirements, and more;
- Attestations from NC farmers and landowners about their experiences with various natural resource programs;
- An Agency Showcase with the opportunity to visit informally with agency representatives;
- A free copy of the publication Conserving Working Lands: A land legacy handbook with tools and resources to guide your conservation planning journey
- Lunch and refreshments
